Petal Project 5 was developed by TZ. CO. CO. for DesCours 2008, an AIA New Orleans sponsored week-long event. The Project was conceived based on a desire to assimilate with the existing courtyard through a subtle insertion to achieve two programmatic goals: seating and lighting. Since the installation was intended as an event space, only open in the evenings, we wanted the seating configuration to be adaptable to individual and collective desires. Each petalform seat was embedded with its own solar panel that powered an LED light strand. In order to enhance the disco effect, we scattered lasercut shades with embedded LEDs along the green wall.
