CoZE is an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) that aims for net Zero Energy and was designed to reduce the waste that is often produced during construction. This compact 2-bedroom home offers an open living-dining-kitchen space, ample storage, full bathroom and laundry room. The standing seam metal roof provides heat reflectance and fire protection, while serving as a low-impact surface to install photovoltaic panels.
The earthy materials for the project include a wood structure and interiors, and a terracotta-clad exterior, which is fire resistant and provides thermal mass to mitigate temperature swings. The footprint and connection to the ground (slab-on-grade versus raised) will be adjusted according to client needs and site conditions.
